Probate and Estate Administration

Whether you have been appointed as an Executor of a Will, or you are a relative of a person who has died without making a Will, we can provide answers to your questions about dealing with the affairs of the deceased.

At best an estate administration involves dealing with just a few financial institutions but even this can involve obtaining a Grant of Representation from the Court. More complex estates may mean that you must deal with the payment of Inheritance Tax, and Income Tax and Capital Gains Tax issues may arise or there may be business interests to deal with or assets abroad. You may be required to produce accounts and manage trusts. Estate administration can be quite a time consuming process and may take many months to complete.

By accepting the office of an Executor or Administrator you are personally liable for the proper administration of the estate, and for ensuring that the tax liabilities of the estate and the debts of the deceased person are met from the estate before it is distributed to the beneficiaries. When we are asked to act on your behalf you can get on with your daily life, and perhaps more importantly, have the peace of mind of knowing that the necessary procedures will be completed correctly and efficiently.

For nearly 100 years the Penman Johnson Solicitors Probate and Estate Administration Team has assisted its clients with estate administration for estates of every type and size and have dealt with a whole variety of assets. We can also help beneficiaries reduce or eliminate their tax liabilities by varying the Will or the provisions of an intestacy by a Deed of Variation.

If you are simply not sure what to do or if you are unsure whether to ask for our assistance we offer a reduced fixed fee initial meeting to discuss the situation without further obligation.
